The league, which debuted in 2023 with Mumbai Indians claiming the inaugural title under Harmanpreet Kaur’s spirited leadership, continues to evolve with Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) led by the impassioned skipper Smriti Mandhana has entered the ongoing 3rd edition as the defending champions of the tournament for the first time in the franchise history.
Meanwhile, Delhi Capitals, captained by the enigmatic Meg Lanning, remain consistent contenders, having secured back-to-back runner-up finishes. Amidst this backdrop of fierce competition, individual brilliance shines bright, particularly in the realm of half-centuries—a testament to the batter’s mastery over the game.
Here, we celebrate the cricketers who have scripted history with the most half-centuries in the WPL, spearheaded by Ellyse Perry, who recently claimed the top spot with her impressive seventh half-century, followed closely by her contemporaries Meg Lanning and Harmanpreet Kaur.
Top 3: Most Fifties in WPL:
1) Ellyse Perry (7 in 21 innings) –
The 34-year-old experienced Australian superstar has been one of the biggest mainstays, with her remarkable consistency forming the backbone of the Smriti Mandhana-led Challengers from Bengaluru. She was picked up by the franchise for a whopping 1.7 CR in the inaugural auctions in 2023. Perry is the leading run-scorer of the franchise with 835 runs at a strike rate of 133.17 and a mind-blowing average of 64.23 in 21 innings for her franchise across the first three seasons so far in the tournament.
She is also currently the leading run-scorer of the ongoing 3rd edition of the WPL, with 235 runs at a sensational strike rate of 160.95 and a humongous average of 117.40 in four innings with the bat for her side so far. Her tally of runs in the ongoing edition of the tournament includes three half-centuries. Her career-best score for the franchise in the WPL came on 24th February 2025 against the UP Warriorz when she stayed unbeaten on (90* off 56 balls) at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium. However, it wasn’t enough for her side to get those two points, even with the game going into a historic first-ever super over in the brief history of the WPL. It was Perry’s 2nd consecutive half-century after (81 off 43 balls) against Mumbai Indians. With that half-century against the Warriorz, her 7th in 21 innings, Ellyse Perry has claimed the top spot in the most number of half-centuries in WPL.
She played a pivotal role in helping the Smriti Mandhana-led side end the franchise’s 16-year-long wait for the silverware. They defeated the Meg Lanning-led Capitals by 8 wickets in the final, to clinch their maiden title. Ellyse Perry was the leading run-scorer of the 2nd edition of the tournament with 347 runs at a strike rate of 125.72 and an average of 69.40 in 9 innings with the bat for her side. The kind of remarkable start she has got in the ongoing edition of the tournament, she is yet again a prime contender to clinch the orange cap for the 2nd consecutive time this year.
2) Meg Lanning (7 in 22 innings) –
The legendary former Australian skipper Meg Lanning was picked up by the Delhi Capitals in the inaugural auction at an impressive price of 1.1 CR in 2023. She was appointed as the skipper of the franchise. She has led from the front as a master tactician bringing innovative and effective strategies to the table as a skipper, which continues to give her side immense success in the tournament. They emerge as the strong title contenders yet again, in the ongoing 3rd edition of the tournament, after finishing as the runners-up in the first couple of editions in the WPL, against Mumbai Indians and Royal Challengers Bengaluru.
Skipper Meg Lanning is currently the leading run-scorer for the Capitals with 782 runs at a strike rate of 128.40 and an outstanding average of 39.10 in 22 innings with the bat for her franchise across the first three seasons of the WPL. Her best performance with the bat for the Capitals came on 5th March 2023, when she scored a vital half-century (72 off 43 balls) against the Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) at the Brabourne Stadium, in Mumbai.
She notched up her first half-century (69 off 49 balls) in the ongoing 3rd edition of the tournament against the UP Warriorz led by skipper Deepti Sharma in round one in Vadodara. It was also her overall 7th half-century in 22 innings for her franchise across the first three seasons in the WPL, placing her 2nd on the list of the most number of half-centuries in the WPL. She is also currently the leading run-scorer for her side in the ongoing 3rd edition of the tournament with 106 runs at a strike rate of 115.21 and an average of 26.50 in four innings with the bat for the Capitals this season.
3) Harmanpreet Kaur (6 in 19 innings) –
The dynamic and fearless Indian skipper Harmanpreet Kaur was picked up by the Mumbai Indians franchise at a whopping amount of 1.8 CR in the inaugural auctions of the WPL. She was appointed as the skipper of the franchise. The decision worked wonders as she inspired her side to be crowned as the inaugural champions of the tournament by defeating the Delhi Capitals led by skipper Meg Lanning by 7 wickets and three balls to spare in the final.
Mumbai Indians reached the eliminator in the 2nd edition of the tournament, where they ended up on the losing side against the eventual champions Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) by five runs at the Arun Jaitley Stadium, in Delhi. Harmanpreet Kaur is currently the fifth-highest run-scorer of the WPL, and the 2nd highest run-scorer for the Mumbai Indians with 645 runs at an impressive strike rate of 140.21 and an average of 43 in 19 innings.
Her best performance with the bat for her side in the tournament came on 9th March 2024 when she took the WPL by storm, tearing apart the Gujarat Giants bowlers, scoring an unbeaten 95* off 48 balls to guide her side over the line at the Arun Jaitley Stadium in Delhi. In the ongoing 3rd edition of the tournament, skipper Harmanpreet Kaur is the 2nd highest run-scorer for her side with 96 runs at an impressive strike rate of 154.83 and an average of 32 in three innings so far.
She has again looked in good rhythm with the bat for Mumbai, notching up her first half-century (50 off 38 balls) in the ongoing 3rd edition of the tournament. It was her 6th half-century in 19 innings, placing her 3rd on the list of the most number of half-centuries in the WPL. Her recent half-century against the home side Royal Challengers Bengaluru led by skipper Smriti Mandhana played a vital role in helping her side get over the line in a close contest.
