Chris Eubank Jr has hinted that a huge showdown with Conor Benn could be moving closer.
Eubank Jr recently defeated Kamil Szeremeta in a routine return stoppage win, before bitter rival Benn scrambled in the ring and the pair faced off.
The pair have been heavily linked with a huge all-British bout ever since their clash in 2022 was cancelled after Benn failed two pre-fight drugs test.
Benn ripped up his BBBofC licence after being provisionally suspended by UK-Anti Doping [UKAD], but he has since been cleared to return by the National Anti-Doping Panel [NADP].
He is now able to apply for a BBBofC license but has yet to do so, although indications are that he would be reinstated.
It has opened the door to new rounds of talks, with Eubank Jr’s promoter Ben Shalom suggesting these negotiations are now advancing.
And in an interview with talkSPORT’s Gareth A Davies in Riyadh, Eubank Jr has suggested it will hopefully be good news regarding the fight in 2025.
He said while in the Middle East ahead of the Oleksandr Usyk vs Tyson Fury rematch: “We are in the process of making the big one.
“It’s on the horizon. You know what fight it is. Yeah it is going to be huge and it is going to be in the UK.
“In the whole of 2025, I would say it is ten [out of ten chance of happening].
“I can’t give you a date, a time or a place yet, but in 2025 for sure it will happen.”
The fight is far from certain as it stands, with reports indicating that Benn is also in talks over a world title shot.
‘The Destroyer’ could instead elect to fight WBC welterweight champion Mario Barrios with an offer also potentially on the table for that to take place next year.
Benn hasn’t fought since defeating Peter Dobson in a return in February, but won’t want to be out of action for much longer.
Misleading reports indicated that the pair had agreed on a purse split for the fight, with progress being made overall.
This set Benn on a furious rant as he denied the claims on social media, taking aim at Eubank Jr.
He wrote on Twitter last week: “Stop spreading false narratives @ChrisEubankJr.
“You w****r, we both know that deal hasn’t been agreed to and we’re not even close yet on the numbers.
“I’ll happily fight Barrios next for the WBC belt and ice him.
“You can fight a 50 year old [Erislandy] Lara and lose every round.
“Or I’ll just come to Brighton now and batter you for free you f***ing p***k.
“Oh and call your dad and every now and again you rat.”
From Benn’s side of the negotiating table, his promoter Eddie Hearn has insisted it could be in line next, with March or April being eyed.
