Chiefs face massive three-peat payout if they break curse that struck Magic Johnson’s Lakers

The Kansas City Chiefs can make NFL history with an unprecedented third consecutive Super Bowl triumph.

Their potential accomplishment already has been branded the three-peat — a phrase which has been uttered countless times this season.

Mahomes and Co. have been trying to downplay it, insisting that they are taking things one game at a time so as not to get ahead of themselves.

But just days out from the showdown in New Orleans, a report claims the Chiefs have been caught looking beyond the Eagles.

Legendary NBA coach Pat Riley trademarked the phrase three-peat at the start of the 1988-89 season after winning consecutive championships.

His team, which featured all-time greats Magic Johnson and Kareem Abdul-Jabbar, was swept 4-0 by the Detroit Pistons in the NBA Finals but four seasons after losing to Detroit, his foresight paid off.

Riley reportedly ‘owns six trademarks to various forms of Three Peat,’ meaning he has the rights to use it on everything from jewelry to backpacks and beverages.

Riley cashed in as Michael Jordan and the Chicago Bulls won a third straight title in 1993.

MJ did it again between 1996 and 1998 and the former Lakers boss was also rewarded by the New York Yankees’ third consecutive MLB triumph in 2002 – the year Los Angeles finally sealed its own treble with Kobe Bryant and Shaquille O’Neal.

A report from cllct.com says Riley has struck a deal with the Chiefs for the use of the phrase if they can beat the Eagles.

Riley’s attorney, John Aldrich, claimed any royalties would be paid to the Pat Riley Family Foundation.

A source within the licensing industry told cllct that licensees usually pay a 10 to 15 percent royalty on the wholesale price.

As Philadelphia’s coaches and players look for any extra motivation — they may have just found it.

They will now be hoping Chiefs fans ignore Travis Kelce’s warning from 2023.

It has become a playoff tradition for rivals to dress up the iconic statue of one of Philadelphia’s favorite sons, Rocky Balboa.

Down the years, Rocky has sported the colors of the Minnesota Vikings, New England Patriots, New York Giants and San Francisco 49ers.

The Eagles won every contest, but Washington Commanders followers didn’t listen and dressed up the fictional boxer’s statue anyway.

That didn’t work out well for them as Saquon Barkley torched their team for 60 yards on the first offensive play of a crushing win to set up a trip to New Orleans.

After watching the Niners lose the NFC Championship in 2023, Kelce had seen enough.

“Right now, Chiefs (fans), do not touch the f****** Rocky memorial,” he said on his ‘New Heights’ podcast.

“Do not do that, alright? Definitely don’t put an 87 on there. Do not do that.”

The Chiefs fanbase took note and went on to claim the Vince Lombardi Trophy over Jalen Hurts’ Eagles — the first of their back-to-back titles.

With the three-peat on the line, Philadelphia fans may decide to take matters into their own hands.

Kansas City Chiefs CEO Clark Hunt REVEALS why Travis Kelce is so special to Andy Reid’s team

Travis’ brother Jason — one of the best players ever to represent the Eagles — thinks the statue hijinks might be an inside job.

“I am convinced there is a Philadelphia fan who is putting these shirts on the Rocky statue just to get everybody all fired up, and it’s working,” he said on New Heights. “It’s working tremendously, so keep doing it.”
