Tom Brady will call his first Super Bowl from the FOX booth on Sunday night.
Arguably, there is no one better placed to analyse the biggest game of the year.
The legendary quarterback played in 10 Super Bowls and won seven of them to become synonymous with the event during his incredible playing career – but has come in for criticism for his first, and sometimes rocky, first year on the job.
Brady’s playing credentials are not in doubt.
No player has won as many rings as TB12, and given all the success he had across 23 seasons in the NFL, it’s little surprise that he’s regarded as the greatest of all-time (GOAT).
Ahead of Super Bowl LIX in New Orleans, a game that Brady will call as part of his 10-year, $375m deal with the broadcaster, the 47-year-old has been making the media rounds himself.
He stopped by The Herd on Friday to preview the action and while there, host Colin Cowherd asked the retired QB how he would prepare for his massive games in years gone by.
And Brady’s answer certainly didn’t disappoint.
He went on a two-minute long monologue, detailing the intense preparation and work he put in ahead of his final Super Bowl, which came for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers against the Kansas City Chiefs back in 2021.
“There is a lot of pressure, certainly from my standpoint,” Brady Began.
“As I got older, I realized the enormity of this game, how important it is to actually win.
“My last year, the last Super Bowl I was a part of, it was two weeks of watching film.
“Friday night, I was just going through the film. I knew Kansas City’s defense better than they knew themselves. I knew their body movements, the way their linebackers move, the way their safety’s moved.

“Tyrann Mathieu, (Daniel) Sorensen, Charvarius Ward. I knew everything they were doing. I got out there on the field, I looked up as I was walking the line of scrimmage, I said, ‘Okay, they’re blitzing.’
“And then I was dealing with it right away. I walked up, I said, ‘Okay, they’re going to bail to Cover Two.’ Ball snapped, Cover Two. I had the answers to the test.”
In breaking down his preparation for the game, it’s clear to see exactly what separated Brady from the rest.
And he went on to break down exactly what else it was that made him the GOAT.
He continued: “That’s where I was great.

“That’s where my magic superpower was. It wasn’t how fast I could run.
“It was how fast I could diagnose what they were doing. What’s the special quality? What’s the internet speed of me as a quarterback? Fast as s***.
“I was Starlink before Starlink. Now, other guys, if it’s a slow processing speed, well, he’s going to get you. The reality is I could figure out what they were doing before they did it because that’s how I learned to play the game.
“That’s how I believe most quarterbacks should play the game. Unfortunately, as we’ve talked about, most quarterbacks aren’t playing the game like that anymore.

“They’re fast when they get out of the pocket, when they have to make decisions. But I didn’t snap the ball unless I knew what they were doing and if my guy is gonna be open.”
Wrapping up his monologue, Brady explained that he shared his ‘superpower’ with two other NFL greats, who played the game the same was as him.
“What’s going on in (my head) is what my superpower was,” he said.
“That was Peyton Manning’s superpower. That was Drew Brees’ superpower.
“Those were the guys that I tried to be like. That’s what we did a great job of. That part of the game is what I am really fascinated by. When I see players play like that, those are the guys that I think have the most upside.”
As an analyst on FOX, Brady has at times this season been accused of being ‘wooden’, ‘stilted’ or ‘awkward’.
But in a two minute appearance on The Herd, he proved exactly why there is no one better to break down a game of football.
If he can share even an ounce of the knowledge that made him the greatest quarterback of all-time on Sunday night as the Chiefs take on the Philadelphia Eagles, then viewers will be in for a treat.
