I won Super Bowl with Mahomes – forget Hurts, Allen, and Jackson, NFL is still ‘his league’ despite Eagles humiliation

Patrick Mahomes and the Kansas City Chiefs were humbled on Sunday night.

The Chiefs walked into Caesars Superdome in New Orleans with the chance to make history by winning their third-straight Super Bowl.

But instead, it was the Philadelphia Eagles that hoisted the Lombardi Trophy after a 40-22 blowout.

And in reality, even that scoreline flattered the Chiefs.

Philadelphia – and particularly their defense – were dominant from the first minute.

The Eagles sacked Mahomes six times, the most of his career, and hounded him on plenty more dropbacks without calling a single blitz.

Philly also intercepted the quarterback twice in the first half alone, as they smothered Kansas City’s offense to end the evening with their second-ever Super Bowl win.

In the lead up to the big game, there was plenty of talk around Mahomes and his legacy.

If he could have led the Chiefs to a historic three-peat, he would have had a claim at the NFL’s GOAT crown.

After all, even the great Tom Brady, who won a record seven Super Bowls, never did it three times in a row.

Of course, Kansas City’s hopes of making history were quickly snuffed out on the night and now, some NFL fans are questioning Mahomes entirely.

The quarterback has been ripped apart by his haters on social media, who suggest he had one of the worst Super Bowl performances of all time.

Mahomes’ stats suggest that isn’t entirely true, as the Chiefs star finished 21-32, throwing for 257 yards and two touchdowns alongside his two interceptions.

Most of those points, though, came in garbage time, once the game was already lost.

While some are writing off Mahomes after his rough Super Bowl, one former teammate believes the NFL is ‘still his league’.

LeSean McCoy, who won the Lombardi Trophy alongside both Mahomes (LIV) and Brady (LV), explained why teams should still fear Mahomes more than anyone else.

“Is there any other level bigger than the NFL? No,” McCoy began on FS1’s The Facility.

“In his first year starter, they go straight to the AFC Championship game. Okay, they lose to Tom Brady. But in that year, MVP, all that, all types of crazy stats.

“Okay, (Mahomes says) that’s not good enough. I go back again. And again, and again. Now I’m winning Super Bowls.

“There’s no way you can compare any other quarterback, any other player in this NFL, to Patrick Mahomes.

“He’s winning, he’s scoring, he’s a superstar, you’ve got to game plan for him. This is his league.”

McCoy, who also played with the NFL’s newly-crowned MVP Josh Allen, suggested he was a big fan of the Buffalo Bills quarterback — but explained why even he doesn’t match Mahomes right now.

“You should never speak about any other quarterback playing today’s game with Patrick Mahomes,” he continued.

“That’s just being respectful. It’s his league, he’s the best of the best.

“Every year, he got his team in a Super Bowl, or an AFC Championship game.

“And there are some great players that can’t even get to the Super Bowl. They don’t even know what it smells like.

“And another thing is, he’s not protected by a whole bunch of great players around him. So when he has got great players, he goes to the Super Bowl.

“When he’s got weak players, he goes to the Super Bowl. And you tell me that’s a conversation with other quarterbacks?”

McCoy, a six-time Pro Bowler who led the NFL in rushing yards back in 2013, makes a compelling argument.

But whether fans listen to him in the wake of Kansas City’s Super Bowl collapse is another question entirely.
