Bristol City v Middlesbrough prediction
Bristol City head into the weekend after an inconsistent set of results since the turn of the year, with three wins, four draws and three defeats in their first 10 matches of 2025 so far.
Liam Manning’s side currently sit eighth in the Championship table, just two points off the play-offs, but have picked up only one win from their last four games, all of which have come against teams in the bottom half of the table they should be beating to have any hope in a serious play-off push.
Despite their lack of wins in recent weeks, the Robins have lost only one of their last six matches and will be expecting to improve their strong home record on Friday night against an out of form Middlesbrough side they’re competing with for a play-off berth.
Middlesbrough make the long trip down to the West Country on Friday night looking to end their current run of six defeats in their last seven matches, including losses in their last four games.
The torrid run of form of late leaves manager Michael Carrick under pressure for his job, with the side having dropped out of the top six and into 11th, where they sit ahead of this weekend.
However, despite being five places outside the play-offs, such is the tightly congested race for the top six this season, the Teesside club are only four points behind sixth placed West Brom, meaning a win on Friday would take them right back into contention.
Only five teams in the Championship boast a better home record than Bristol City, who will be eager to become the latest side to inflict defeat on this struggling Middlesbrough side.
Boro will be bereft of confidence heading into Friday night’s game under the lights at Ashton Gate, leaving me to believe a 2-1 home win is the most likely scoreline.
Bristol City v Middlesbrough betting tips
Only four players have scored more Championship goals this season than Bristol City’s Anis Mehmeti who scored his 10th and 11th goals of the season in the Robins’ last home game, his third brace at Ashton Gate of the season.
Middlesbrough are still reeling from the loss of their top goal scorer Emmanuel Latte Lath in the January transfer window, losing four matches in a row since his last start for the club, and that could continue against a promotion chasing Bristol City.
