England vs Scotland prediction, odds and betting tips (Six Nations)

England and Scotland will meet at Twickenham on Saturday for the Calcutta Cup. This is the oldest fixture in international rugby union. The first match was played in 1871 and won by Scotland.

Steve Borthwick’s team will seek to end a four-match losing skid against the Scots. His team are coming into the match off a good win over France, while the Scots will be looking for a morale-boosting win after a disappointing loss to the Irish.

England vs Scotland prediction

Both teams have one win and one defeat in this year’s Six Nations. England will start Round 3 third in the table with six points from their two matches. Scotland sit fourth with five points.

The Scots failed to pick up a bonus point in their Round 2 defeat to Ireland. England has picked up one bonus point in both of their matches.

England opened their Six Nations with a 27-22 defeat to Ireland at the Aviva Stadium. The Three Lions started well and even led at the halfway point, but were well beaten when the Boys in Green roared back in the second half.

The loss left Steve Borthwick under pressure – again. The result flattered England and everyone knew it.

Borthwick needed a reaction from his team, and he got one as England secured a one-point win over France at Twickenham in Round 2.

Elliott Daly’s converted try on 79 minutes gave England a much-needed 26-25 victory over the pre-tournament favourites. Lifting the pressure off Borthwick, for now!

Scotland started their Six Nations campaign with an underwhelming 31-19 win over Italy at Murrayfield. The main positive to take from the match was Scotland won with a bonus point.

Gregor Townsend’s team did come in for some criticism. But with bigger matches against Ireland and England to follow, the Scots were given the benefit of the doubt.

That proved to be a false dawn. Any optimism that the Scots had been saving themselves for Ireland soon disappeared in Round 2.

Scotland had a brief ten-minute spell on either side of halftime in their 32-18 loss. But that period of play aside, they were completely outplayed and outclassed by a dominant Ireland side.

Even the most ardent Scotland fan would have to admit that they were lucky to only lose by 14 points, it should have been by far more.

England vs Scotland betting tips

England (-8.5) to win on the handicap spread

Scotland has the chance to repair some of the damage from their loss to Ireland when they take on England. But, based on the form of both teams in their respective last matches, it is very hard to see Gregor Townsend’s team extending their winning streak over the English.

We see a win for England. And if Scotland are anywhere near as poor at Twickenham as they were against Ireland, it could be a horrible afternoon for the Calcutta Cup holders.

Over 46.5 Points

The last two meetings between England and Scotland have yielded over 50 points in both matches.

England are also playing an open and expansive style of rugby that was perfectly illustrated in the second half against France in Round 2.

All four matches involving these teams in the 2025 Six Nations have seen 49 points or more scored as well.

Scotland will likely tighten up at the back after their Murrayfield experience against Ireland.

But England has shown in this competition that they are far from watertight in defence, and along with the attacking team they have picked, this could be another high-scoring encounter.

Tommy Freeman to score a try anytime

Tommy Freeman has two tries in his two matches for England in the 2025 Six Nations.

The Northampton Saints wing crossed the line late in the defeat against Ireland to make the scoreline look more respectable.

He then scored England’s crucial second try against France in Round 2, getting the Three Lions back in a match that at the time looked to be getting away from them.

England have stuck with Fin Smith at 10 and Marcus Smith at 15 for the Scotland match. The team selection means they are clearly going to continue with their open style of play that will suit the wingers.
