Saturday racing tips
- KEMPTON
1.50: Rubaud 6/4 (1pt)
2.25: Mondo Man 4/6 (2pts)
3.00: Celtic Dino 9/2 each-way (1pt)
3.35: Hyland 4/1 (1.5pts) - CHEPSTOW
3.07: Javert Allen 7/4 (2pts)
Rubaud
The first graded meeting of the day at Kempton is the Pendil Novices’ Chase.
Ashdale Bob returns from 205 days off and despite being ten-years-old is still unexposed over fences.
He comes here off the back of two wins last year and makes a long awaited return to Britain having last been seen since March 2023, with a plethora of Irish runs between.
He doesn’t have a great strike rate over the Irish sea, nor does trainer Mrs John Harrington so it might be a tough ask against Rubaud.
Rubaud won as many as eight from 15 hurdles and is still yet to be off the mark over fences.
But a close second to L’Eau du Sud is encouraging and he’s sure to only progress for trainer Paul Nicholls.
Mondo Man
Clear favourite for a reason as he placed second behind the impressive Lulamba on hurdle debut over a month ago.
He’s 20/1 for the Triumph Hurdle but may shorten a touch if he wins this as convincingly as he should and the form lines suggest.
Only carries 2lb more than Opec and receives 5lb from the likes of St Pancras and Sauvignon who have won already this season.
But Mondo Man is unexposed and likely a top player.
Celtic Dino
The next Graded meeting at Kempton is the Dovecote Novices’ Hurdle over 2m.
You could make a case for plenty of these as all of the runners bar Blues Singer have won this season.
Miami Magic was a decent second behind Potters Charm earning him a huge 7lb rise.
Celtic Dino however, appeals as a small price each-way punt as he gets the return to good ground which should be ideal.
Hyland
Hyland has been nothing short of consistent, placing second here last time out to the unexposed and improving The Jukebox Man.
And now he faces a similar test here but with all the potential to take things up and win for trainer Nicky Henderson.
This horse beat Transmission by a staggering 15 lengths at Cheltenham on seasonal debut and then confirmed that ability in listed novice company beating Resplendent Grey.
Should be tough to beat on return here after nearly two months off, ample time to come here stronger and fresher.
Javert Allen
There’s no escaping going for some favourites today. Javert Allen is still very dangerously weighted especially if you go off the hurdle form he has with Lowry’s Bar.
He’s still unexposed over fences and has won with plenty in hand in his first two chase starts including beating Harper’s Brook at Newbury last time out.
It’s only going to get tougher for this horse as he continues to step up in classes and weight but it would be no surprise to see him win this stylishly having already won over course and distance before.
