Happy Birthday Arshdeep Singh: India’s new fast-bowling sensation Arshdeep Singh celebrates his 26th birthday today, on February 5. Known as a death-over specialist, Arshdeep rose to fame after winning the 2018 Under-19 World Cup. He was picked by Punjab Kings in the next IPL auction but failed to match the expectations in the first two seasons. The left-arm pacer regained form in the 2021 edition and took 18 wickets. In the following year, he was called up to make his T20I debut against England.

Arshdeep Singh kicked off his international career with a maiden over– a feat which was previously achieved by only two Indian bowlers, Jhulan Goswami and Ajit Agarkar. The youngster was also a key member of the Rohit Sharma-led side that won the 2024 T20 World Cup in Barbados. He finished as the joint-highest wicket-taker of the tournament with 17 scalps and was also named the ICC T20I Cricketer of the Year.

Arshdeep Singh’s Top 5 Performances

He dismantled the American top order while giving away just nine runs in his four overs. Arshdeep took the crucial wickets of Shayan Jahangir, Andies Gous, Nitish Kumar and Harmeet Singh as India won the group fixture by seven wickets.
  2. 5/37 vs South Africa, 1st ODI in 2023: While Arshdeep Singh has yet to cement his spot in the ODI setup, he has proven his quality in his eight appearances in the format. In 2022, the left-arm bowler recorded his best ODI spell against South Africa in Johannesburg. He scalped five wickets to restrict the Proteas to 116 runs in the first innings. India ultimately notched an eight-wicket win in the low-scoring game.
  3. 2/20 vs South Africa, T20 World Cup final 2024: One of Arshdeep Singh’s most impactful performances came in the T20 World Cup final against South Africa. Besides claiming two wickets, he kept the economy in check and conceded only 20 runs in his four-over spell. He dismissed Quinton de Kock and Aiden Markram as India ended a 12-year drought to secure an ICC trophy.
  4. 5/32 vs Rajasthan Royals, IPL 2021: Arshdeep Singh fetched a five-wicket haul in an IPL game against Rajasthan Royals in 2021. He dismissed top batters including Evin Lewis and Liam Livingstone as the Jaipur-based side wrapped up their innings at 185. His efforts, however, went in vain as Punjab Kings fell two runs short of the massive target.
  5. 4/29 vs Sunrisers Hyderabad, IPL 2024: Arshdeep Singh stepped up with another magical spell against the Sunrisers Hyderabad in the last IPL. With Punjab Kings bowling first, the young pacer scalped three wickets to keep Hyderabad at 182/9. Arshdeep got the better of big hitters like Travis Head, Aiden Markram and Nitish Kumar Reddy. Hyderabad, however, narrowly won the match by two runs.
