Atletico de Madrid vs Getafe predictions
In the heat of the battle between Barcelona and Real Madrid at the top of La Liga, it is sometimes easy to overlook Atletico Madrid.
Not that this bothers manager Diego Simeone and his players one bit. In fact, it probably only serves as an inspiration, and it also helps them go under the radar at times.
Atletico seem to be doing just that at the moment. All the attention seems to be on an unhappy Mbappe across the city or the injury crisis at the Camp Nou. And while these dramas are playing out, Atletico are on a ten-match winning streak.
Los Rojiblancos sit third in La Liga with 35 points from 16 matches. They have won their last five in La Liga, and are now only three points behind leaders Barcelona with one game in hand to boot.
Their most recent league win came over Sevilla last Sunday. Atletico had to come from 3-1 down to secure a 4-3 win at the Metropolitano. Antoine Griezmann was their saviour with two goals, including the winner in the 94th minute.
That’s the sort of comeback win we’ve come to expect from Atletico under Simeone. His teams rarely lack spirit, and this season they seem to have plenty of it on show.
In the Champions League things are going okay too. Simeone’s team beat Slovan Bratislava 3-1 on Wednesday. That win puts them into 11th place, one point outside the top eight and almost assured of at least a place in the playoffs.
It was also Atletico’s third successive win in the Champions League, following a 6-0 away win over Sparta Praha on Matchday 5 and a 2-1 win away at PSG on Matchday 4.
On Sunday, Atletico will face a Getafe side that sits 15th in La Liga with 16 points from 16 matches. The visitors have lost three and won two of their last five in La Liga.
Scoring goals seems to be the problem, the Geta Azulones have only found the back of the net 11 times this season. The trade off is they have only conceded 13 goals.
It must be hard to watch at times, but it’s these defensive tactics employed by Getafe manager Jose Bordalas that has made them hard to beat.
So far it is working, it is keeping them out of the relegation places.
Last Monday’s 1-0 win over Espanyol is the perfect example. Getafe kept it tight at the back, and won the crucial six-pointer thanks to an 8th minute goal from Alvaro Rodriguez.
The win was Getafe’s second in three matches. It sees them move three points clear of the relegation zone, and gives Bordalas some breathing space.
Whether these tactics will work out over the course of a season is another story.
Atletico vs Getafe betting tips
Facing Atletico at the Metropolitano is a daunting task for any team at the best of times. But facing an Atletico team on a ten-match winning streak is something else.
Getafe will come into the match with some hope. They have won two of their last three in La Liga, keeping clean sheets in the two victories.
The problem for Getafe is that Atletico are flying at the moment. The visitors will make it difficult and will deprive Simeone’s team of space on Sunday, but we expect Madrid to get the three points with a bit to spare.

We know that Getafe doesn’t concede many. But Real Madrid did put two past them a couple of weeks ago, and that was a misfiring Real team.
We can see Atletico scoring at least twice and keeping their customary clean sheet as well.
⚽ Tip – Back Atletico to win from -1 on the European handicap market at 10/11 with Midnite ⚽
Atletico to score over 1.5 goals – 11/10
Following on from the first tip, we can certainly see Atletico hitting the back of the net at least twice in their current form.
Furthermore, in La Liga, Atletico has shown their attacking skills by scoring two or more goals in their last four home matches. The last team to stop them scoring two or more at the Metropolitano Stadium was Real Madrid back on September 29th.
If you think that Getafe might do the unthinkable and score, backing over 1.5 goals might be a safer bet than backing Madrid on the European handicap. Personally, at odds of better than even money, this looks a great bet.
⚽ Tip – Back Atletico to score over 1.5 goals at 11/10 with Midnite ⚽
Antoine Griezmann to score or assist – 31/20
Antoine Griezmann has scored seven goals in his last five matches for Atletico in La Liga and the Champions League.
The Frenchman is on fire at the moment and is one of the main reasons why Madrid is scoring so many goals.
Also helping is Griezmann’s blossoming partnership with former Manchester City strike Julian Alvarez. The Argentine is proving to be the perfect foil for Griezmann and the two are now finding the net with increasing regularity.
Griezmann is 31/20 to score or assist. He hasn’t assisted recently, so don’t be shy of just backing him to score for the slightly better odds.
But such is the way Alvarez is starting to find the net, it would be no surprise to see the two combine for a goal for one or the other, and this bet covers both outcomes.
⚽ Tip – Back Antoine Griezmann to score or assist at 31/20 with Midnite ⚽
