Bayern Munich host Celtic in the second leg of their Champions League play-off tie with a slim advantage after the German side triumphed 2-1 in the first leg at Celtic Park.
Michael Olise’s 45th minute finish put Bayern ahead away from home and England captain Harry Kane doubled their advantage four minutes later. The Bundesliga leaders looked to be cruising into the last-16 but a goal from Celtic’s Daizen Maeda cut the deficit and gives some hope to Brendan Rodgers side.
There is a slim chance the Scottish side can overturn the deficit and make it into the next round but they have yet to win away from home in this Champions League campaign. In comparison, Bayern have won their last seven home games across all competitions and will be confident of making it through the tie.

Celtic’s German woes
Celtic have played 15 away games against German opposition in Europe, and are still looking for their first such victory (D3 L12).
Indeed, they’ve lost on their last five trips there by an aggregate score of 4-18, with their most recent game in Germany being a 1-7 defeat to Borussia Dortmund earlier this season.

Is Bayern’s progress assured?
Bayern Munich have progressed from their last 13 Champions League knockout ties when they’ve won the first leg.
The last time they were knocked out was in the last 16 against Internazionale in 2010-11, winning 1-0 in Italy in the first leg before losing 3-2 in the second leg and going out on away goals.

Celtic have never progressed after losing first leg
Celtic have been eliminated in their last nine major European knockout ties when they’ve lost the first leg, since going through against 1. FC Köln in the first round of the 1992-93 Uefa Cup (0-2 first leg, 3-0 second leg).
They’ve never progressed when losing the first leg at home, however (seven previous instances).

Brendan Rodgers calls Harry Kane ‘best striker in the world’ as he laments Celtic loss
Kane volleyed in from a corner not long after half-time at Celtic Park to give the German side a 2-0 lead, with Michael Olise having opened the scoring on the stroke half-time.
And though Celtic fought back and got a deserved goal when Daizen Maeda bundled in late on, it wasn’t enough as Kane’s goal gave the Bavarians the win.

‘The goal is to win’
Bayern Munich hold a one-goal lead in this tie and Vincent Kompany hopes to extend that by leading this team to victory in Munich.
He said: “My first thought is never about ‘what happens if…’
“My thought is always that we can win something. We won at Celtic Park, which doesn’t happen often; very few teams manage that.
“That was also the goal in Leverkusen and is again tomorrow. I’m not thinking about anything else, except whether we can perform to our best.”

At his pre-match press conference yesterday the Bayern boss said: “Celtic have done really well so far in the Champions League.
“They can always be a threat. But we won at Celtic Park and earned a point in Leverkusen.
“When results are good, that gives you extra strength, and that should help us tomorrow.”
