‘Santa Purdy’ delivered the goods this Christmas.
As has become tradition around the NFL, the San Francisco 49ers quarterback gifted his offensive lineman teammates some incredible gifts this holiday season as a small token of this appreciation for all the hard work they do in making sure he doesn’t get sacked.
Purdy surprised his teammates in Santa Clara, California this week with a remarkable gift — 10 brand new Toyota trucks.
The Niners signal caller gave the the five Toyota Tacomas and five Toyota Sequoias to his O-line, including Aaron Banks, Jaylon Moore, Nick Zakelj, Jake Brendel, Spencer Burford, and Colton McKivitz.
“You guys can check ’em out, but these are yours,” he says in a video shared to social media.
“Merry Christmas,” the quarterback continued. “Merry Christmas guys. ‘Preciate you guys. Thanks for all y’all do.”
The sweet rides were particularly generous given Brock’s salary for the 2024 season is $934,252, while the five starting offensive linemen earn $37,651,852 between them.
However, Purdy may have got a good deal with Toyota, as he signed an endorsement deal with the car manufacturer before the 2023 season and has appeared in numerous commercials with the company.
Purdy, still on his rookie NFL contract after being selected dead last in the 2022 NFL Draft, earning himself the moniker ‘Mr. Irrelevant’, is about to get paid with a capital ‘P’.
The man who has led the 49ers to two NFC championships and one Super Bowl appearance in the last two seasons is due for a contract extension after this season and is reportedly looking to be amongst the highest, if not the highest, paid quarterback in the league.
According to The Athletic’s Dianna Russini, the 49ers are ‘firmly committed to Purdy as their long-term quarterback,’ but it will cost them a pretty penny to do so.
Per reports, Purdy is seeking a contract in excess of $55 million per season, placing him at the top of the QB market.
Dak Prescott was signed by the Dallas Cowboys to a four-year, $240 million contract earlier in 2024. He is the new league leader in average annual value at $60 million.
Joe Burrow and Trevor Lawrence, the Bengals and Jaguars’ field generals, got identical five-year deals at $275 million, for average annual values of $55 million.
Purdy, who has thrown for 59 touchdowns over 34 regular season starts and led the NFL in passer rating in 2023, is looking to sit at that table and the widely held belief is that he will get what he’s looking for.
This year has been a down season for the 49ers, who were beaten by Patrick Mahomes and the Kansas City Chiefs in last season’s Super Bowl.
After going 12-5 in 2023, they’re 6-8 as 2024 draws to a close, good enough for dead last in the NFC West.
Kyle Shanahan’s team has been decimated by injuries this season, most notably to wide receiver Brandon Aiyuk, running back Christian McCaffrey, and left tackle Trent Williams.
The 49ers still have an extremely slim chance of making the playoffs, essentially needing to win their three remaining regular season games against the Dolphins, Lions, and Cardinals, while needing their division rivals to basically implode down the stretch.
Unfortunately for the Niners, that’s unlikely to happen, giving them an extended offseason to ponder where to go from there while giving Purdy the money he deserves.
