‘Exceptional Game’: PM Modi, Rahul Gandhi, Top Politicians Hail Team India’s Champions Trophy Triumph

India beat New Zealand by 4 wickets on Sunday (March 9) to win the final of the Champions Trophy 2025.

President Droupadi Murmu, Prime Minister Narendra Modi, union ministers, politicians across the party lines on Sunday hailed Rohit Sharma-led team India after Men in Blue posted a 4-wicket win over New Zealand at the Dubai International Stadium to clinch the coveted ICC Champions Trophy 2025 as they chased down a target of 252 in 49 overs.

President Droupadi Murmu congratulated team India for their victory and said, “Heartiest congratulations to Team India for winning the ICC Champions Trophy, 2025. India becomes the only team to win the Trophy thrice. The players, the management and the support staff deserve highest accolades for creating cricketing history. I wish Indian cricket a very bright future.”

PM Modi lauded the team’s hard-work and said, “An exceptional game and an exceptional result! Proud of our cricket team for bringing home the ICC Champions Trophy. They’ve played wonderfully through the tournament. Congratulations to our team for the splendid all around display.”

Union home Minister Amit Shah congratulated team India for their victory saying that it’s the one that scripted history.

“A victory that scripts history. Congratulations to Team India on clinching a stunning victory in the ICC #ChampionsTrophy2025. Your fiery energy and unassailable dominance on the pitch made the nation proud, setting a new benchmark for cricketing excellence. May you always come off with flying colors,” he said on X.

BJP President and Union Health Minister also congratulated men in blue for their victory over New Zealand.

“Champion of Champions 🇮🇳 My heartfelt congratulations to the Indian Men’s Cricket Team for winning the ICC Champions Trophy 2025 by defeating New Zealand in finals. This victory speaks volumes about the team’s determination and never give up attitude. Each player gave their best, and this is a win that will be remembered for years to come. The whole nation is celebrating today, and I’m sending my best wishes to the team for continued success,” he said.

Congress MP Rahul Gandhi also applauded team India and said, “Smashing victory, boys! Each one of you has made a billion hearts swell with pride 🇮🇳 #TeamIndia’s phenomenal run in the tournament, marked by brilliant individual performances and sheer dominance on the field, has been truly inspiring. Congratulations, Champions!”

Union Sports Minister Mansukh Mandaviya also congratulated men in blue for their victory over New Zealand.

“Hoisted the tricolour! Congratulations to the champions of India for a brilliant, tremendous win,” he said on X.

Union Defence Minister Rajnath also lauded team India’s efforts, saying, “What a fantastic victory and superb performance by the Indian cricket team! Team India has scripted history by defeating New Zealand at the Champions Trophy final match. India is elated by this victory. Congratulations to the entire team for spectacular display of cricketing skills. This victory today will motivate so many youngsters and aspiring cricketers.”

Former Delhi CM and AAP chief Arvind Kejriwal also extended his congratulations to the Indian team.

“Congratulations team India for fantastic performance,” Kejriwal said in a post on X.

West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee congratulated to team India for a spectacular victory in the ICC Champions Trophy tournament.

She said, “Congratulations to our India Team for a spectacular victory in the ICC Champions Trophy tournament 2025 today! In a breathtaking final match, our boys showed power and resilience of the highest order, kept consistency, and we won the trophy with prowess! An evening of tremendous pride for Indians!!”

Maharashtra CM Devendra Fadnavis also lauded Team India’s efforts saying, “”The Indian team, led by captain Rohit Sharma, dominated the entire series from the beginning and finally achieved victory. For this, the Indian team deserves praise and pride. Cricket is the passion of Indians. But not only in India but also cricket lovers around the world are fans of the Indian team. For them too, the tough fight of India’s “young and energetic” team was exciting,The team brought victory and brought an unforgettable experience to witness such indescribable moments in the lives of cricket lovers. This victory was eye-opening and a wink to cricket lovers, for which we all cricket lovers will be grateful to the Indian team.”

Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma also lauded men in blue for spectacular victory.

He said, “INDIA. THE ODI CHAMPIONS 🇮🇳 Congratulations Rohit Sharma and team for the unbeaten and stupendous run at the #ChampionsTrophy2025. You deserve every bit of it! So so proud of this team 🏆”

Shiv Sena (UBT) MP Priyanka Chaturvedi also lauded men in blue for spectacular victory.

“Well done and 3 cheers for Team India, truly the best! A hat tip to the coach, @GautamGambhir and To the captain, @ImRo45,” she said on X.

Congress leader Dr Shama Mohamed, who made the headlines for her controversial remarks on captain Rohit Sharma, also hailed team India’s victory.

“Congratulations to #TeamIndia for their stupendous performance in winning the #ChampionsTrophy2025! 🇮🇳🏆 Hats off to Captain @ImRo45 who led from the front with a brilliant 76, setting the tone for victory. @ShreyasIyer15 and @klrahul played crucial knocks, steering India to glory! A triumph to remember!” she said on X.

India beat New Zealand by 4 wickets on Sunday (March 9) to win the final of the Champions Trophy 2025. In the title decider played at Dubai International Cricket Stadium, India rode on captain Rohit Sharma’s 76-run knock to chase down the target of 252 runs in 49 overs for the loss of six wickets. During his stay at the crease, Rohit faced 83 balls and hammered 7 fours and 3 sixes. The 37-year-old right-handed batter added 105 runs for the first wicket with Shubman Gill (31 runs) in 18.4 overs.

The win on Sunday helped India become the most successful team in Champions Trophy history with three titles and Rohit Sharma becomes the fifth captain in the world to win multiple ICC trophies.
