Touted by the NHL as “best on best”, on Wednesday, the in-season tournament kicks off, with Canada and Sweden clashing against each other in round-robin play.

The Canadians will be led by Tampa Bay Lightning head coach, Jon Cooper who will be steering the ship for the co-hosts.
The most notable absence for the Red and White is on the blue line as Alex Pietrangelo relinquished his spot on the roster. The former fourth overall pick in 2008 has 25 points in 53 games with the Vegas Golden Knights this year.
Sam Hallam will be calling the shots from the bench as he was named the head coach for team Sweden. The Three Crowns will have a familiar face behind the bench too as Daniel Alfredsson will serve as one of the assistant coaches.
The Swedes will be without the services of Jacob Markstrom, who was pegged to be the starter for Sweden, but had to withdraw due to an injury.

Canada vs. Sweden predictions
There was some doubt Sidney Crosby wouldn’t participate in the 4 Nations, but the Canadian captain is good to go. Sid the Kid has a plethora of experience at the men’s level in international hockey.
Crosby has won two Winter Olympic gold medals (2010,2014), a World Championship gold medal in 2015 and claimed the 2016 World Cup of Hockey.
Pencilled in as one of Crosby’s linemates is his best friend Nathan MacKinnon. The Colorado Avalanche forward is having a stellar 2024-25 season leading the NHL first overall stockpiling 87 points through 57 outings. In his career, the 29-year-old sits 14 points back from the 1000 club.
Widely regarded as one the league’s best performers in this current generation of talent, Connor McDavid will taste international hockey at the senior level for the third time in his career.
Previously McDavid repped the Maple Leaf at the World Championship on two occasions (2015 and 2016). The Richmond Hill, Ontario native has amassed 1053 points in 694 NHL regular season games.
Captaining the Three Crowns is the sturdy defensemen Victor Hedman. His impressive resume features two Stanley Cup rings, a Conn Smythe Trophy and a Norris Trophy.
Making the NHL’s first or second-team all-star list on six occasions makes him one of the best back-end players in the tournament.
Selected as one of Sweden’s alternate captains, William Nylander will be counted on to provide the offence. Toronto’s right-shot sniper has lit the lamp 33 times this year in 55 appearances.
If he can remain healthy, Nylander is on track to eclipse his career high in goals which was set last season and in 2022-23 collecting 40 goals.
Canada vs. Sweden betting tip
Despite both countries carrying stacked rosters, each country possesses a weakness that could be exposed on the world stage. It’s long been talked about Canada’s lack of depth in the blue crease could be the team’s Achilles heel from winning the tournament.
Sweden on the other hand have the advantage in goal but down the middle is arguably the weakest position between all four teams in this event. The Three Crowns center depth could be a massive issue with their players currently struggling in NHL play this year or just lack that NHL top tier class.
Safe to say Canada will enjoy a boost from the deafening faithful attending the Bell Centre on Wednesday. Top to bottom on forward and defence Canada checks off all the boxes, along with this we feel this will help Canada’s goaltending crisis and make them look better playing in front of a first-rate roster of players versus what they used to at the team level.
