Harry Kane has unique Boxing Day record that may never be broken and may break Alan Shearer record if he returns

Harry Kane set a Premier League record in his final season at Tottenham and it may never be broken.

The festive piece of history came against Brentford on Boxing Day in 2022.

Kane’s headed goal was his 10th in the Premier League for Spurs on December 26.

It moved him one ahead of former Liverpool striker Robbie Fowler and two clear of Alan Shearer and Robbie Keane.

Heading into this year’s festive period of top-flight action, no current active players are in the top 10 for Boxing Day goals.

Of this season’s Premier League stars, Chris Wood, Son Heung-min, Raheem Sterling and Bukayo Saka all have four strikes.

Christian Eriksen could also break into the all-time top 10 with three Boxing Day goals currently to his name.

Meanwhile, Kane could yet set another record if he ever returns to the Premier League from Bayern Munich.

The 31-year-old has also scored 22 goals in the division between Boxing Day and January 4.

He trails Shearer by just a single strike, whilst Fowler completes the top three with 18.

As for active players, Kane’s ex-Spurs team-mate Son has 11 and Sterling is tied with Marcus Rashford on 10.

The active top five is completed by Mohamed Salah on nine and Saka on eight.

Alan Shearer – 8

Robbie Keane – 8

Thierry Henry – 7

Kane could have already pulled level with the Premier League’s all-time leading scorer, though.

The former Spurs captain missed a penalty on December 28, 2016 which would have seen him sit on 23 goals by the time he moved to Germany.

Having already scored against Southampton, Kane blazed over from 12 yards in a 4-1 win for his side at St. Mary’s.

As a result, he remains a single goal behind Shearer, who scored the last of his 23 festive strikes came against Spurs on December 29, 2002.

Kane also has another of Shearer’s Premier League records in his sights if he makes a comeback in the future.

His 213 league goals for Spurs ranks him second in the competition’s all-time scoring charts.

It also places him just 47 behind Shearer’s 260 Premier League goals for Blackburn and Newcastle.

For now, though, Kane remains in stunning form for Bayern since his move to the Bundesliga.

So far in his second season in Germany, the England skipper has scored 20 goals and provided nine assists in 19 appearances.
