Luton v Plymouth prediction

23rd plays 24th in the Championship on Wednesday night in a massive six pointer in the battle to avoid relegation to League One.

Luton head into the game as odds on favourites for victory on Wednesday despite being rock bottom of the second tier table due to their being at home and with the better side on paper.

The Hatters are, however, without a win since December and with nine defeats in their last 11 matches in all competitions since Christmas, which has seen the side who were tipped as favourites to win the division at the start of the season, now staring relegation in the face.

Rob Edwards was sacked as manager of the Bedfordshire side in January, with former Wycombe manager Matt Bloomfield taking over at Kenilworth Road, though the 41 year old has failed to turn the tide and has picked up just two points from his six games in charge.

Last week saw Plymouth climb off the bottom of the Championship table for the first time since before Christmas as they earned a stunning 5-1 win over Millwall last Wednesday.

Miron Muslic’s side couldn’t follow that statement victory up with a win on the weekend as his side lost 2-0 at a top six Blackburn side, but the Austrian manager will have his side confident and well motivated ahead of Wednesday’s titanic clash at Luton.

The Pilgrims are winless away from home in the league this season but the tide does seem to have turned on the Devon coast since Muslic’s appointment as Wayne Rooney’s successor after the latter’s sacking as manager last month.

The West Country side make the trip to Bedfordshire having lost just one of their last five matches, winning three of their last four including a historic win over Premier League leaders Liverpool in the FA Cup.

Luton have lost only one of their last six matches against Plymouth, but that defeat did come in their most recent encounter earlier this season when Argyle ran out 3-1 winners.

The visitors have also won on two of their last four trips to Kenilworth Road, and will fancy themselves at upsetting the odds on Wednesday night.

81% of Luton’s points have come at Kenilworth Road this season, while Plymouth are are still yet to pick up their first win on the road in the league, however the Hatters’ heading into this game with nine defeats in 11 games makes me feel a stalemate is the most likely outcome – I’m predicting a 1-1 draw.

Luton v Plymouth betting tips

Carlton Morris has led the line for Luton as captain for the majority of the season and heads into Wednesday night’s crunch tie as his club’s leading goal scorer in all competitions with seven goals to his name this season, with no player on either team having scored more.

Luton’s torrid run of no win in 11 matches combined with Plymouth still having not won a match away from home in the Championship this season leads me thinking a draw is the most likely outcome, a results both sides would likely be content with.

  • Carlton Morris to score – 15/8 on Sky Bet
  • 1-1 draw – 6/1 on Sky Bet
