How to watch Manchester United vs Ipswich as Red Devils look to end Old Trafford woes against former coach

Manchester United will be hoping to end their struggles at Old Trafford on Wednesday night when they take on Ipswich.

Ruben Amorim’s side have lost seven home games in the Premier League this season, which is their most in a campaign since 1963.

The Red Devils were beaten by Crystal Palace in their last league game in Manchester, which made it five home defeats in their last six.

It leaves them sitting 15th in the table and closer on points to the relegation zone than a place in the top seven where they would wanted to have been.

United head into this game having failed to win any of their last three, but a comeback draw against Everton will have injected some positivity.

They take on Ipswich who are struggling down at the bottom of the top-flight too, sitting 18th and without a victory in 2025.

Kieran McKenna, who is a former Man United coach, will be desperate for three points that will move his side closer to safety.

  • Ipswich Town have kept just one clean sheet in their last 24 Premier League away games (52 goals conceded in total), drawing 0-0 at Brighton in September.
  • Manchester United haven’t been ahead at half-time in any of their last 19 matches in all competitions, since leading 2-0 against Everton in December. Indeed, in the Premier League this term only Leicester City (7) have scored fewer first half goals than the Red Devils (9).
  • Ipswich have failed to win any of their seven Premier League games so far in 2025 (D2 L5), conceding an average of three goals per game this year. Only in 1970 (top-flight) and 1990 (second tier) have they failed to win any of their first eight league games in a calendar year.

Man United vs Ipswich: Team news

Man United could make a couple of changes to their line-up.

Alejandro Garnacho started on the bench in that game but the momentum switched when he came on, so he may be rewarded with a start this time around.

That could see Joshua Zirkzee or Rasmus Hojlund dropped while Casemiro may also lose his place to Christian Eriksen.

Kobbie Mainoo, Amad Diallo, Mason Mount, Luke Shaw, Lisandro Martinez, Jonny Evans, Toby Collyer and Altay Bayindir are all still out and make up the long injury list.

As for Ipswich, Kalvin Phillips and Jens Cajuste are both doubts after being substituted with injuries against Spurs last time out.

However, McKenna is hoping their scans are positive and that they can feature.

Conor Chaplin and Julio Enciso are expected to remain in the treatment room.

  • No side have conceded more Premier League goals from corners this season than Manchester United (11). It’s the second consecutive campaign in which they’ve conceded 11 goals from corners – they’ve never shipped more.
  • Ipswich’s 4-1 defeat against Tottenham last time out was the seventh different league game in which they’ve conceded 4+ goals this season – it’s their most in a single campaign since 1994-95 (also 7), while they last did so in more in 1963-64 (9).
  • Omari Hutchinson scored Ipswich’s goal in their 1-1 draw with Manchester United in the reverse fixture – the last Ipswich player to score home and away league goals against the Red Devils in a single campaign was Chris Kiwomya in 1992-93.

Man United vs Ipswich: What has been said?

Former Man United coach McKenna has been speaking about taking his Ipswich side back to his old stomping ground.

He said: “Now we have a big game to focus on on Wednesday. There’s a great energy around the training ground, everyone is really excited.

“It’s the standout one on the calendar for sure. For our players, it is the first time some of them will play at Old Trafford.

“The opportunity to go and compete there in a league game is fantastic for the football club, for the group of players, and for the staff.

“It’s a stadium that many of us will have grown up watching football at and be inspired by. You want the players to feel nothing but excitement and good feelings towards the game.

“Of course, it’s a difficult challenge as well and we have to prepare for that but the overriding feeling in the building is excitement.”
