Milan vs Roma predictions

AC Milan sit 8th in Serie A with 26 points from 16 matches. Sunday’s opponents Roma are 10th, they have 19 points from 17 matches.

Starting with a look at Milan, and it has been a bit of a struggle for I Rossoneri in Serie A in recent weeks. Paulo Fonseca’s team has picked up only nine points from their last six matches, winning two, drawing three and losing one.

In defense of Fonseca, he has been juggling domestic football with the Champions League. And he also had to play Juventus (drew 0-0) and league leaders Atalanta (lost 2-1) during that sequence of matches.

A 3-1 win away at Real Madrid on Matchday 4 of the Champions League preceded the six-match Serie A run. And it’s their good Champions League form that is getting Fonseca off the hook.

Milan has picked up a further six points in the Champions League with wins over Slovan Bratislava (3-2) on Matchday 5 and Crvena zvezda (2-1) on Matchday 6.

As a result, they currently sit 12th in the Champions League group and are well placed for a top-eight finish with both their remaining matches favourable.

But in Serie A, their two most recent outings haven’t been the best.

On Matchday 16, Milan were held to a disappointing 0-0 draw at home to Genoa. And although they managed a 1-0 win away at Verona on Matchday 17, it was a far from convincing display.

Scoring goals is the big problem, Milan have found the net just 25 times in 16 matches. This was perfectly illustrated in the 0-0 draw against Genoa, with Milan having 22 attempts on goal, but only hitting the target four times.

They will need to improve on that when they face Roma, who are enjoying a spell of new-manager-bounce under the leadership of Claudio Ranieri.

Ranieri has been in charge for five Serie A matches, losing three and winning two.

Okay, that might not sound like much of an upturn in fortunes, but in all competitions, Roma has won four, drawn one and lost three under the legendary boss who recently came out of retirement to take over the club for a third time.

Furthermore, Ranieri has got the team playing decent football and scoring goals.

In their last two matches at the Stadio Olimpico, Roma has put four past Sampdoria in the Coppa Italia and five past Parma in Serie A on Matchday 17.

There has also been a 3-1 win over Leece in Serie A on Matchday 15 and a 3-0 win over Braga on Matchday 6 of the Europa League.

In total, the Romans have won four of their last five in all competitions, scoring 16 goals. The only match they didn’t win or score in was a 2-0 away loss to Como.

And therein lies the next problem for Ranieri to solve – Roma’s away form.

Roma hasn’t won on the road all season in all competitions. In Serie A they have drawn four and lost four of their eight. While in the Europa League, they have lost one and drawn two of their three away trips.

Can they improve on that record against Milan?

Milan vs Roma betting tips

The feelgood factor has certainly returned for Roma at home, but we are yet to see it materialise on the road.

Since their last away trip, the Romans have scored nine in two at home. Will that give them the confidence to take the game to a Milan side that has been struggling to score goals in recent weeks?

We can see Roma giving Milan a match and believe that they can leave the San Siro with a point. Read more of our Milan vs Roma betting tips below:

Roma and draw in double chance

We can see a rejuvenated Roma having a real go at Milan.

Roma boss Claudio Ranieri has stated that his team need to replicate their home form on the road. And after nine goals in their last two outings, surely this is the time for Roma to produce the goods away from home.

Furthermore, with Milan having struggled in their past two matches, this looks a great time to be taking on the Rossoneri.

Both teams to score (Yes) and over 2.5 goals

We are backing the Romans to reproduce their home goal scoring form on the road against Milan, and as a result, we believe that we are in for an open and entertaining match.

Claudio Ranieri might be improving Roma’s attacking play. But there is little to suggest he has tightened the team up at the back.

The Romans have conceded in their last nine road trips in all competitions. They have also conceded in eight of their last ten matches in all competitions, both home and away.

Despite struggling in their last two outings, Milan have scored in six of their last seven. They are likely to find the net against a leaky Roma defence.

A bet on both teams to score is 7/10. Adding over 2.5 goals takes the bet to even money.

Tijani Reijnders to score anytime

Tijani Reijnders has been in good form for the red and black lately.

The attacking midfielder scored a brace in Milan’s 3-0 win over Empoli on November 30th, and he also got the only goal of the game in the 1-0 win over Verona in his team’s last outing before Christmas.

Furthermore, Reijnders found the net in Milan’s Coppa Italia win over Sassuolo at the beginning of the month.

At odds of 4/1, Reijnders looks worth backing to continue his excellent goal scoring form of recent weeks.
