Newcastle United vs Leicester City predictions
Newcastle United have had a frustrating season so far. That is disappointing for the club’s supporters, but perhaps not surprising.
The problems started in the summer. In order to comply with the Premier League’s profit and sustainability rules, Newcastle had to sell Elliot Anderson and Yankuba Minteh, two young players they would have preferred to keep.
Lloyd Kelly arrived on a free transfer and Lewis Hall made his loan move from Chelsea permanent, but Newcastle were unable to complete a deal for Crystal Palace centre-back Marc Guehi despite pursuing him right up until the transfer deadline.
Reports in the media at the time suggested Eddie Howe did not see eye to eye with the new sporting director Paul Mitchell, who replaced Dan Ashworth following the latter’s switch to Manchester United. It probably did not help that Howe was strongly linked with the England job either.
Even so, Newcastle should be doing better than this. A 4-2 defeat by Brentford last weekend extended their winless streak to four games and left the Magpies in the bottom half of the table as Christmas approaches.
Currently 12th, they are now seven points adrift of the Champions League places. If that gap gets much bigger, it will be extremely difficult for Newcastle to finish in the top four.
It is true that Howe’s side were ahead of schedule when they ended the 2022/23 campaign in fourth. But given how much money the club has spent since the Saudi takeover, the manager will start to come under pressure if Newcastle remain in the bottom 10 for much longer.
Their next two opponents in the league are Leicester City and Ipswich Town, two relegation candidates. After that Newcastle will face Aston Villa, Manchester United and Tottenham Hotspur in a much trickier sequence of fixtures. It is therefore vital that they collect maximum points against the promoted duo in the next couple of games.
Leicester have picked up since Ruud van Nistelrooy replaced Steve Cooper as manager, so Saturday’s showdown will not necessarily be easy. With Newcastle in poor form, this might not be a bad time for Leicester to head to St James’ Park.
Newcastle United vs Leicester City betting tips
Newcastle United and Leicester City will lock horns in the Premier League this weekend.
Draw/Newcastle half-time/full-time
Leicester have a surprisingly excellent record at St James’, where they have lost only one of their last seven Premier League visits.
Their confidence has no doubt been boosted by the four points from a possible six they have collected under Van Nistelrooy’s stewardship.

Dig a little deeper, though, and it is not difficult to argue that Leicester were fortunate to both beat West Ham United and draw with Brighton & Hove Albion. The Foxes will need to turn in a better performance here.
It is easy enough to envisage Van Nistelrooy’s side making life difficult for Newcastle, especially in the first half.
But despite their recent struggles, the Magpies should have enough to get over the line in front of their own supporters.
⚽ Tip draw/Newcastle in the half-time/full-time market at 33/10 with Casumo ⚽
Newcastle under 2.5 goals
Newcastle have been without Sven Botman, arguably their best defender, for the entirety of the campaign. Yet their attacking output has been a bigger issue up to now.
Newcastle have scored just 19 goals in their 15 top-flight matches – an average of 1.27 per 90 minutes. Only Crystal Palace, Everton, Ipswich and Southampton have been less productive.
In 13 of their 15 matches to date, Newcastle have scored two goals or fewer. That is one reason why we recommend adding this wager to your betslip.
Leicester are not exactly known for their defensive resolve. But despite having one of the leakiest backlines in the division, the Foxes are averaging two goals against per match.
An average defensive display from Leicester on Saturday would make this bet successful.

Alexander Isak to score any time
Alexander Isak has not been at his brilliant best so far this term, but there have been signs of late that he is gradually getting back to his top level.
Howe described the striker’s performance in last week’s 3-3 draw with Liverpool as his best of the season.
Isak scored in that game and he also made the net bulge against Brentford a few days later, taking his tally for 2024/25 to six.
The Sweden international brings more to the table than goals, but that is any centre-forward’s bread and butter and Isak will be desperate to keep his scoring streak going here.
