Real Madrid vs Rayo Vallecano predictions
Real Madrid have won just one of their previous five La Liga matches.
Their poor run of domestic form has seen them lose top spot to Barcelona, with Los Blancos starting Matchday 27 on 54 points, three points behind their Catalan rivals at the top of the table.
It’s probably fair to say that Real have been distracted by the Champions League. They had to face Manchester City in the playoffs, and they are now halfway through their two legged Round of 16 tie with Atletico.
La Liga waits for no team, though. And it seems Real are now paying the price domestically for failing to finish in the top eight of the Champions League group and avoid the need to face the English champions in the playoffs.
Madrid is also a victim of their own success. They’ve had to compete in the FIFA Club World Cup, they made it to the final of SuperCopa and they are also half way through a two legged semi-final against Sociedad in the Copa del Rey.
The reason Madrid has been so successful over the years is because they find a way to win. They get through the tough periods and then flourish in the finals.
But Los Blancos has Barcelona and Atletico challenging them for the La Liga title this season. And they have only picked up five points from their previous five matches – they are not going to win the league if they carry on like that.
Madrid were beaten 2-1 by in-form Real Betis on Matchday 26. They followed that up with a 2-1 win over Atletico in the first leg of their Champions League clash on Tuesday.
Rayo Vallecano are enjoying a solid season in La Liga under the guidance of head coach Inigo Perez.
Los Franjirrojos started Matchday 27, seventh in the table with 36 points from 26 matches, just two points outside the European positions.
Alongside Real Sociedad and Getafe, Vallecano are one of three La Liga teams that don’t concede many, but don’t score too many either.
The Red Sashes have conceded just 27 goals in their 26 matches. A solid defence is what their success has been built on.
But it comes at a price. Perez’s team has only scored 28 goals this season. Only six teams have scored fewer, and even two of the bottom four have found the back of the net on a more regular basis than Vallecano.
So far, the tactic is working. But they have lost two of their last three, with a 1-1 draw at home to Sevilla on Saturday breaking a two-match losing skid.
Real Madrid vs Rayo Vallecano betting tips
Real Madrid cannot afford to drop any more points. Rayo Vallecano seem to have run into a poor run of form at exactly the wrong time. Check out our match tips below:
Real Madrid to win and under 3.5 goals
We expect Real Madrid to win this match. Given Vallecano’s defensive play, it probably won’t be pretty, and there are not likely to be too many goals to celebrate either.

Real have scored just five times in their previous five La Liga matches. Vallecano has scored three times in their last five matches.
Back Real to win and fewer than four goals in the match.
⚽ Back Real Madrid to win or and under 3.5 goals at 23/20 with Star Sports ⚽
Both teams to score
Rayo Vallecano don’t score many goals in general. But in recent matches, they have gotten even worse with one goal in their last three.
The bizarre thing is that they are creating plenty of chances.
They had 20 attempts in their 1-1 draw with Sevilla on Saturday, ten attempts in their 1-0 loss to Villareal, and nine away at Barcelona, where they also lost 1-0.
That’s 39 attempts on goal in their last three matches, resulting in just one goal.
Both teams to score is 20/21. And although Rayo don’t score many, we can see them getting opportunities against Madrid and feel that a bet on both teams to score is worth taking a chance on at those odds.
⚽ Back yes in both teams to score at 19/20 with bet365 ⚽
Brahim Diaz to score or assist
Brahim Diaz has two goals in his last two matches for Real Madrid.
Okay, he is not a regular starter when everyone is fit. But with the Champions League second leg against Atletico on the horizon, he should be in the starting eleven to face Vallecano due to a bit of squad rotation.
And why wouldn’t Carlo Ancelotti start with the 25-year-old?
Diaz scored Madrid’s only goal of the game in their 2-1 defeat to Betis on Saturday, and he also scored his team’s second in the 2-1 win over Atletico in the Champions League on Tuesday.
He may have to make way for the returning Jude Bellingham. But if Diaz starts, he is worth backing to score or assist against Vallecano at odds of just under even money.
⚽ Back Brahim Diaz to score or assist at 19/20 with Tote ⚽
