It’s the penultimate weekend of the 2025 Six Nations Championship and it’s crunch time.
Ireland have already completed the triple crown, downing all three of the home nation opposition, and they now have only the continental Europeans between them and Grand Slam glory.
This weekend they face the likely toughest clash of the tournament when they welcome the French to Dublin – a game that is a potential championship decider because France, who lost to England in week 2, will top the table heading into the final weekend should they complete victory over the boys in green.
Elsewhere, Wales will look to build on an improved performance last time out against a Scottish team that has yet again failed to deliver despite so much hope and potential.
Finally, England hosts Italy on Sunday and will be hoping to break a long run of nervy wins or defeats.
Let’s see how the bookies have re-ranked the teams to win the championship and also in this fourth set of matches.
Six Nations Championship odds
Here are the updated tournament odds from PaddyPower:
- Ireland 8/13
- France 8/5
- England 17/1
- Scotland 500/1
There is an outside chance of an England triumph but it requires everything to go their way and for them to put an enormous number of points on the board in the final two games. In other words: it’s very, very unlikely. Effectively, then, it is a two-horse race and Ireland’s home advantage this week gives them the edge.
Ireland v France
If Ireland gets past the French they will hit the final straight of this year’s tournament as champions-elect because only an Italian booby trap would stand between them and a third title in as many years.
It’s a big prize for both the players and stand-in coach Simon Easterby, and there were signs last time out that the latter was getting a little twitchy when his team laboured to victory in Cardiff.
The French had no difficulty thumping Italy two weeks ago but this is a much bigger, and more significant, test. If they can continue to threaten with the backs, and be more ruthless, they can set up a championship bid of their own on the final weekend.
Ireland v France odds
Here are the latest match odds for Ireland v France from Betfred.
- Ireland: 5/6
- Draw: 18/1
- France: 21/20
Betting Tip: France to win at 11/10 with Ladbrokes
Ireland has won the last two matches between these teams but France won the three before that. The last six matches have seen a split of three wins each – and the last eight matches are four each. Ireland does have a home advantage of 3-1 but France won the penultimate clash in Dublin in 2021.
It’s a tight call, in other words, and Ireland looked a little frayed last time out against the Welsh while the French cut the Italians to pieces. France will find this week tougher but at odds against, playing a nervy team (and coach) on the brink of history, they are the pick.

Scotland v Wales
It is a wearying time to be a Scottish rugby fan. The squad has a mercurial fly-half in Finn Russell, scoring machines on the wings in Duhan Van der Merwe and Darcy Graham, and dynamism in the pack, chiefly in the form of Rory Darge. They often play thrilling rugby and they are also capable of defeating world class opposition.
They also have a fatalistic obsession with banana skins of their own finding. The Welsh, on the other hand, turned in a much-improved performance against Ireland two weeks ago and are sniffing a win that would add to the sense of transformation.
Scotland v Wales odds
Here are the latest match odds for Scotland v Wales from Betfred.
- Scotland: 1/12
- Draw: 25/1
- Wales: 7/1
Betting Tip: Wales to win at 7/1 with PaddyPower
Scotland has a superior squad, better form, and home advantage, but there is also a shadow creeping across their Six Nations Championship record in the last few years. It’s the shadow of under-achievement and the Welsh can capitalise on it.
Scotland has won the last two matches between the teams, but Wales won the two before that and has claimed 14 of the last 18 clashes including six of the last eight in Edinburgh. Further improvement is possible for the men in red.

England v Italy
Italy was on the wrong end of a thrashing last week and England will be desperate to repeat the dose. Why so? Well, the 16-15 victory over Scotland last time out was – incredibly – the 17th instance of an England match being decided by less than 10 points in its last 19 matches.
The only two exceptions were 59-14 and 52-17 defeats of Japan, and coach Steve Borthwick will be hoping for a similar scoreline to reduce the criticism of his squad and tactics by ex-players and the media. Rather more simply, Italy will be hoping to stay in touch with England and take advantage if the home team hits squeaky bum time.
England v Italy odds
Here are the latest match odds for England v Italy from Betfred.
- England: 1/50
- Draw: 28/1
- Italy: 12/1
Betting Tip: England to win (-28 points) at 15/8 with Betfair
This bet is going against the England-can’t-escape-a-tight-match narrative for two reasons. The first is that the dam has to burst sooner or later: the English can’t keep failing to assert themselves.
The second is that new fly-half Finn Smith impressed in his first start, he endured some bruises in his second, but this weekend is the ideal opportunity to bounce back in style. England has won seven of the last 11 matches between the two teams by at least 30 points.
