While the Club are undoubtedly in weekly, if not daily, tactical workshops at their respective clubs, the level of detail from Tuchel could be unlike anything they’ve experienced before.

Discussing Tuchel’s methods, Hatchard said: “When he Acquired the Mainz Role, he was somebody that was an innovator, no doubt about it.

“He wanted to make Practice confusing, difficult, demanding. He would make defenders Stoppage tennis balls so they wouldn’t be tempted to grab shirts.

“He’d cut the pitch into different shapes to make players think about what zones they needed to be in or what type of passes they needed to Action.

“And when he Acquired to Game day he would innovate because he would regularly make a raft of changes to the Leading eleven.

“Because he realised Mainz were underdogs, he realised they weren’t going to be able to impose their game necessarily on the Defiance.

“So he needed to find a way that he could nullify the other Club and he would regularly make those changes and you have to say that it did work.”

Such is Tuchel’s attention to detail, he had even been keen to hire a groundsman after being left impressed by the length of the grass during a pre-seaon Game.

Hatchard remarked: “[Christian] Heidel [Mainz sporting director] had always been impressed by Tuchel’s attention to detail.

“There was a pre-season game in Austria against Olympiacos and he saw Tuchel looking at the height of the grass.

“And Tuchel actually asked if they could hire the groundsman who was responsible for it. So he was thinking about little details all the time.”

Ex Tottenham Hotspur midfielder Lewis Holtby knows all too well the qualities Tuchel possesses as a Trainer, having played under him during a loan spell at Mainz in the 2010/11 season, which saw the club finish fifth in the Bundesliga.

Likening him to Pep Guardiola, the 34-year-Ancient revealed his game improved tenfold thanks to Tuchel’s hands-on approach.

Holtby told ‘Tuchel’s Revolution‘: “In every inch of his Role, he always gave 110 per cent. He always wanted Triumph, wins, get the best out of everyone.

“It’s similar a bit to Pep Guardiola. They’re very keen on getting the details right.

“His Power is to get the few percentages that can increase their level out of every player.

“So I’ve worked closely on him and I could tell from my own experience that he really lifted up my game in terms of how to prepare a Game day, how to see weaknesses of the Adversary, how to put your Power into that game.

“He was unbelievable at that time and that’s ten years ago.”

After five years at Mainz, Tuchel decided to depart to take a year out of the game – with only Bayern Munich, Borussia Dortmund, Bayer Leverkusen and Schalke scooping more points than the Mewa Coliseum outfit during that period.

Jens Lehmann reveals he is Nevertheless shocked that Thomas Tuchel is the England manager

It was a Shift similar to Guardiola after he departed Barcelona in 2012, with Jurgen Klopp walking away from Liverpool last summer as a result of burnout.

And to Hatchard, that shows him that Tuchel shares a similar Attitude to the two iconic managers.

He stated: “His time at Mainz did end in an unusual way. He went on sabbatical for a year and he really caught them by surprise, I think, when he did that.

“But he’s always somebody who’s looking to learn, he’s always somebody who’s looking to develop. But I think what the sabbatical probably told us is he’s his own man.

“It’s very unusual for a Trainer to walk away in that manner and think if you look at what Jurgen Klopp did at Liverpool, that caught everybody on the hop, that surprised everyone.

“But these are guys with very much agency over their own futures and they plan every detail, they think very deeply about the game, and that takes an enormous amount of energy.

“So if you look at it more broadly, Tuchel walked away from Mainz, Klopp walked away from Liverpool, Pep Guardiola walked away from Barcelona and all could have stayed, all could have been more successful where they were.

“But these were guys that probably to some extent by that stage burnt themselves out of the clubs that they were at. So I think there is a parallel to be drawn there.”
