Travis Kelce shares ‘incredible experience’ during new career role that could hint at surprising future amid NFL retirement rumors

Travis Kelce’s future is very much up in the air.

Speculation is rife that the Kansas City Chiefs great could retire this offseason after his team failed to clinch an unprecedented Super Bowl three-peat.

Kelce and the Chiefs were badly humbled by the Philadelphia Eagles in Super Bowl LIX, leaving serious question marks about what’s next for the 35-year-old tight end.

Part of the reason around the uncertainty about Kelce’s future is his interest in the entertainment world.

The three-time Super Bowl winner is dating pop megastar Taylor Swift and is one half of an award-winning, record-breaking podcast with brother Jason.

He’s also appeared in the TV shows Catching Kelce, Grotesquerie, and They Call It Late Night with Jason Kelce, and is set to make a cameo in Adam Sandler’s upcoming movie, Happy Gilmore 2.

And now, Kelce has reflected on another career-first, discussing his upcoming debut as a movie producer.

Travis has signed on to executive produce his first film, ‘My Dead Friend Zoe,’ which premieres in theaters on February 28.

“Being part of ‘My Dead Friend Zoe’ as an executive producer has been an incredible experience,” he told People.

“My hope is to continue working on meaningful projects like this — stories that entertain, inspire and make a real impact.”

The film “tells a compelling story and shines a light on the challenges our veterans face,” the tight end continued.

Kelce also said in the statement that he’s “proud to be a part of” the film about an Army veteran dealing with PTSD after her friend, a fellow soldier dies.

Kelce’s latest non-football related venture is yet another indication about where the ten-time Pro Bowler sees his future.

However, the man himself has remained tight-lipped about what he intends to do, keeping his cards close to his chest about his retirement plans.

“I know everybody wants to know whether or not I‘m playing next year,” the 35-year-old said on last week’s episode of his ‘New Heights’ podcast.

“Right now I am just kicking everything down the road. I am kicking every can I can down the road.

“I’m not making any crazy decisions, but right now, the biggest thing is just being there for my teammates and being there for my coaches, understanding that there’s a lot that goes into this thing.

“As you see yourself or not feel yourself have the success that you once used to have, it’s a tough pill to swallow.

“And then on top of that, to not be there in the biggest moments, knowing your team’s counting on you. It’s just a tough reality.

“I think I owe it to my teammates that if I do come back, that it’s gonna be something that it’s a wholehearted decision. I’m not half-a***ing it… I think I could play; it’s just whether or not I’m motivated or it’s the best decision for me as a man, as a human, as a person, to take on all that responsibility.”

According to The Athletic, the Chiefs want a decision by March 14, although even if he decides to stay he could have a reduced role.

Per Spotrac, Kelce is owed an $11.5 million roster bonus on that date and a further $1m if he attends training camp.

If he retires before the deadline, the Chiefs will only be faced with $2.5m in dead cap. If he does so after March 14, that rises to $19.8m.
