Tuesday racing tips
- MARKET RASEN
2.20: Bluey 5/6 (2pts)
3.20: Sunset Hill 6/1 each-way (1.5pts) - TAUNTON
4.10: Stream Of Stars 11/1 each-way (1pt)
Bluey
Both of these mares at the top of the betting were involved in the Novices’ Hurdle at Windsor last month, placing behind Jubilee Alpha, a very promising mare trained by Paul Nicholls.
Bluey was second while Siog Geal was back in fourth but not far away at all.
There was realistically little to split them as Jubilee Alpha went on well to win, Bluey was struggling to keep up with the winner and it allowed Khrisma and Siog Geal to close in – resulting in just three lengths between all four of them.
Bluey took things up from the start of the race dictating the pace and looked very comfortable up top until the last couple of furlongs where you could see Joe Anderson just needed Bluey to produce a bit more to keep up with the improving Jubilee Alpha.
Siog Geal tracked the front pack for much of the race, comfortable in midfield and was a bit of an eyecatcher really determined towards the finish despite having been ridden along for much of the straight.
Ben Jones is now in the saddle on Bluey and it could all come down to tactics given the way they both finished so close last month.
Bluey though just looks that bit bigger, with the potential of being stronger at the finish this time and could even make it tougher for Siog Geal this time around if making the pace just that little bit tougher.
Sunset Hill
Lavida Adiva is a consistent mare having placed in the top three seven times from her nine hurdle races, only out of the top three this season when stepping up to Class 2 handicap hurdles facing some tough hurdlers.
She bounced back last time out at Aintree justifying that potential seen previously and clearly the step back to a Class 4 was ideal.
She did only win by a short head to Sweet Magic, but was giving nearly a stone away to that horse.
Gilbertina is a bit of a course specialist, racing here six times in her last seven starts with a form reading: 421826.
I don’t think that’s enough however to beat Lavida Adiva today, and Miss Cynthia the closest rival is drifting in the betting as well.
But Sunset Hill looks to be going under the radar, who placed a great second behind All The Glory at Southwell on New Year’s Day.
That mare is now rated 135 over hurdles and even had a 10lb claimer on board that day.
She goes very well over this distance and was clearly not suited to 3m in Grade 2 company last time out, to give her a great chance here at a massive price.
Stream Of Stars
The 4.10 at Taunton is a very interesting Class 3 handicap hurdle over 2m.
Aurigny Mill and Liari head the market quite clear of the other five rivals – but as much as 12lb separating the eight and five-year-old.
Liari also doesn’t get an allowance for being three years younger which can often be the case.
The Paul Nicholls-trained gelding has had seven runs over hurdles already, but has dropped in the weights after four consecutive defeats.
In fact he’s now back to the same weight he was when winning in February of last year at Musselburgh in the listed Scottish Triumph Hurdle.
Liari has found it tough this season but especially up against older rivals and I don’t think that will change here with the in-form yet inconsistent Aurigny Mill.
That favourite is facing another 4lb rise today though and will need to avoid having another disappointing run after winning prior.
However, I’m looking at the potential of at least a place from Stream Of Stars, who was beaten by seven lengths to Aurigny Mill last time out over this course last month.
Drop back to 2m today while being nudged down another 2lb, which becomes a 6lb swing in his favour – just 4lb higher than when he won at Fontwell in October, having also won in September off a mammoth break of 986 days off.
