The NBA’s trade deadline threatened to come and go without fuss but has now become one of the most memorable in history.
The dust is still settling on the sport after Luka Doncic and Anthony Davis were swapped in an earth-shattering trade last weekend.
Slovenian star Doncic has headed west to join the Los Angeles Lakers in California, with his rival replacing him at the Dallas Mavericks.
News of the shock deal sent the basketball world into meltdown, with it marking the first time that two reigning All-NBA players have been traded for each other midseason.
The fallout has been equally immense, with even LeBron James having to answer questions on his future following Doncic’s arrival.
With Jimmy Butler’s situation remaining unresolved in Miami, it’s no hyperbole to suggest the 2025 trade deadline could be one of the most consequential in NBA history.
When is the NBA Trade Deadline?
The 2025 NBA trade deadline is on Thursday, February 6.
It will close at 3pm Eastern Time, which will be an hour earlier for Central Time, and 8pm for UK fans.
After the deadline, trades are no longer permitted during the season.
A player must be waived on or before March 1 in order to retain his postseason eligibility for a new NBA team, with the exception being those on a 10-day contract.
Stars placed on waivers then have until the final day of the regular season (April 13) to sign for their new team to feature in the playoffs.
The 2025 NBA Draft will be held across June 25-26.
